The magic wonder....

Hi my booboos, I really have to share this. I have had this info a little while now but been a little hesitant and been trying to figure out a way to break the "olive oil" news softly. In my usual curiosity and research I stumbled on 'heart breaking' info about olive oil. In summary, its a very heart healthy oil BUT not built for plenty frying or high heat. Its best as a salad dressing or very light/medium heat like a quick 2 minute or less sauté. The high heat makes it rancid and get carcinogenic!!! hian!! I remember I called my folks in panic and told them my findings.
So a little frustrated, I began "asking" for the way out. We still need some sorta oil for high heat na......especially for we Nigerians that can fry for Africa! And viola I stumbled on Coconut oil....I was very impressed as the benefits are astronomical! There's sooo much info on it I would split it into 2 write ups......today we will talk about its composition and benefits to weight loss. We will look at the other key importance of Coconut oil next week.

Coconut oil is used extensively in tropical countries especially India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Phillipines etc, which have a good production of coconut oil. The benefits of this oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, (48%) capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and soothing properties.
How is lauric acid used by our body?
The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV ( errrrm I don't know o about this one o, na so the research talk.....). It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia. As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system. The Coconut Research Center has compiled various benefits in both traditional and modern medicine. Lauric acid is also found in human mother’s milk! No wonder we are hounded to breastfeed!!

Before we move on to the benefits of coconut oil in detail, let us quickly understand its composition.
Composition of Coconut Oil:
Coconut oil consists of more than 90% percent of saturated fats (Don’t panic! first read to the last word. Your opinion may change), with traces of few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Let us have a bit detailed study of this.

·         Saturated fatty acids: Most of them are medium chain triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well. Lauric acid is the chief contributor, with more than forty percent of the share, followed by capric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid and palmitic.
·         Polyunsaturated fatty acids: Linoleic acid.
·         Monounsaturated fatty acids: Oleic acid.
·         Poly-phenols: Coconut contains gallic acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are supposed to be responsible for the fragrance and the taste of coconut oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
·        Certain derivatives of fatty acid like betaines, ethanolamide, ethoxylates, fatty esters, fatty polysorbates, monoglycerides and polyolesters
·         Fatty chlorides, fatty alcohol sulphate and fatty alcohol ether sulphate, all of which are derivatives of fatty alcohols.
·         Vitamin-E and vitamin K and minerals such as Iron.

Recent researches however show that not all saturated fats are bad for health and coconut oil is one of them. Some saturated fats may increase the level of cholesterol in the blood, and even if they do, this cholesterol need not always be the Bad Cholesterol.

Biko let me explain this in a bit more detail. There are two types of cholesterol, namely High Density Lipoproteins or Good Cholesterol and Low Density Lipoproteins or Bad Cholesterol. While the Bad Cholesterol (LDL) gets deposited in the inner walls of arteries and poses a threat for heart (in extreme cases, it can give heart attacks), the Good Cholesterol (HDL) does just the opposite. It helps lower the level of Bad Cholesterol, provides energy and nutrition to cells and benefits the body in other ways too.

You will be delighted to know that coconut oil has some saturated fatty acids that raise the level of High Density Lipoproteins in the body, lowers Bad Cholesterol, boost immunity and fight ageing. They also increase the rate of metabolism and thus help shed weight. Isn’t it amazing? Oil that helps us loose weight! *whoopwhoop*

Please note that our bodies react different to different food items. So for some people, the cholesterol levels may increase on consumption of coconut oil. Therefore, if you are planning to start using coconut oil in order to lose weight, do check your cholesterol levels regularly.

Health benefits of Coconut Oil
Let us now explore the benefits of coconut oil in detail though due to the major purpose at F.i.t.T.r.i.x which is weight loss, we would concentrate more on that. :D

Weight loss
Coconut oil is too useful in reducing weight on a healthy lifestyle plan. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight.
Hence a more natural way to boost the metabolism without resorting to popping pills full of chemicals and caffeine. With all the dangers associated with thermo genic stimulants, it's no wonder a growing number of people are beginning to shy away from them.
Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight. Coconut oil primarily consists of medium-chain fatty acids. These triglycerides can speed up the metabolism because they are so easily digested and converted into energy. Long-chain fatty acids, like those in polyunsaturated oils, are more difficult for the body to break down and use for energy. Instead, long-chain fatty acids are usually stored as fat in the body. Several scientific studies have exhibited these principles.

One study examined the effect of medium-chain fatty acids on metabolism. Participants' metabolism was evaluated before and after a meal rich in these fats. On average, metabolism increased by 48%. In obese individuals, the increase was as high as an astounding 65%. Studies have shown this thermo genic effect can last for 24 hours.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that medium-chain fatty acids were three times more effective at raising the metabolism than long-chain fatty acids. Researchers
c
oncluded that replacing long-chain fatty acids with medium-chain fatty acids was an effective method for weight loss. Another study from the same journal showed that eating medium-chain fatty acids increases metabolism and also helps burn off stored fat.
Coconut oil can support an already healthy weight in other ways as well:

- Coconut oil slows down the digestion of food, which helps you feel fuller after a meal. Many people notice that after adding Coconut oil to their diet, they are less prone to snacking.
- Because it slows digestion, coconut oil also helps prevent blood sugar fluctuations after a meal by slowing the rate carbohydrates are broken down into blood glucose.
- The medium-chain fatty acids in
coconut oil destroy candida, a condition of yeast overgrowth in the body which triggers symptoms of weight gain, carbohydrate cravings, fatigue and many others. Eliminating candida is an important part of achieving permanent weight loss.
- Coconut
oil is excellent for detoxification. It cleanses the body of many infirmities, balances the digestive tract and nourishes all cells in the body. These benefits restore your health and pave the way for natural weight loss.
The kind of coconut oil you choose is very important. Organic, unrefined extra virgin coconut oil is the best choice since it preserves all the natural goodness of the oil.

We would conclude these series next week....need to run. I am eating into family get away time and boo has been using 'koro' eyes to look at me. He cant understand meeehhhn.....a commitment is a bond!!! Whether I am at home, kutuwenji, 4Points or Prison...I need to keep motivating, informing and educating you!

10 Habits of Unsuccessful dieters......VOLUME 3

Hello my booboos,

How is everyone doing? Hope you all had a fabulous week? Fun, fulfilling, adventurous and tried something new? I did try something new. I am your average nappy (natural hair) sister...I have had it for exactly 3 years now and I am absolutely in love with it. I got bored last week however, and suddenly the heavy craving to dye my hair  honey blonde came over me!!! But then I thought to test the waters by fixing a weave first in that color........hmmmmm. My take - I ain't gonna dye my precious nappy with those harmful chemicals.....whenever I'm bored ....I will fix a funky weave...shikena!

Funky honey blonde weave
Nappy in Bantu Knot outs

Nappy in small twists and packed and my baby's nappy below

Moving on the issue at hand.....the concluding part of our mini series in the "My bag of tips"......please listen and listen good!

Bad Habit #7: Trying to eat as little as possible. If cutting calories is good for weight loss, then eating as little as possible is better, right? Biko it is WRONG (especially if you're also trying to fuel your body for regular workouts). You need to eat a certain calorie level to function optimally and get all its essential nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Eating much less than that can cause serious problems in the long term and damage your metabolism, making weight loss even harder. A new client of mine tried this approach, subtly ignored the meal plans I had drawn up for her...I kept flagging and flagging....but she only got more adamant and "starved". In my mind I felt......errrrrm if you felt you knew it then why come to me. In a nutshell, the day of reckoning came, and of all the people in her batch, she  hardly lost any weight!!! I just smiled....."Will you do as your told now?".........a very meek "yes I will"!

Smart Fix: Don't just guess how many calories you need, and don't eat what someone else eats either. There are recommended calorie ranges that are required for you, your metabolic type and your goals. Eating within that range (even at the very top of it) will help you reach your weight loss goal. There is no reason to go below it. Remember: You have to eat to loose! It is what you eat that is the koko.

Biko why should I eat only tomatoes and lettuce...am I a rabbit? Hian!

Bad Habit #8: Giving up too easily.   No person who ever lost weight successfully reached that goal because they were perfect all the time. Setbacks happen to everyone, even the most successful people. We've all had days where we made a poor food decision during a meal—or even for an entire day. We've all missed workouts, forgot the lunch we packed, or been too busy to cook a diet-friendly meal at home. But those who continue dropping the pounds pick themselves up, forgive themselves from their mistakes, learn from their slipups, and just keep right on going.

Smart Fix: Remember that perfection has no place in a weight loss plan. When you do make a mistake or feel like you're not making enough progress, don't give up. Change requires time and old habits die hard. When you feel yourself ready to give up, reach out for some support, and don't wait until next week or next month to get back on the wagon. There are various ways to get back on track today......

Bad Habit #9: Confusing "healthy" with "low-calorie."
Research shows that when shoppers see "healthy" buzz words or claims on food packages (think: gluten-free, organic, all-natural, sugar-free, low-fat, etc.), they automatically assume the food is low in calories. This couldn't be further from the truth. Food manufacturers will plaster all sorts of enticing lingo onto their packages, knowing that you'll think exactly that. But none of these words really tell you much about the healthfulness of a product; and none of them actually have any affect on a food's calories.

Smart Fix: Read front-of-package labels with a discerning eye, and always turn over the package and look at the nutrition facts (and ingredients) to get a full picture of what a food is really like. This goes for restaurant menus, too. Don't let healthy-sounding words make you think a food is actually low in calories. Know your menu watch words or look up nutrition facts before you place your order.

I even got sucked in......I asked for a tuna salad today @ Goodies and got this pasta multi color crap!!! I was really really pissed. Where are all the chunks of fish and veggies? Goodies mind yourself o! Please lets shine our eyes and ask questions!! I didn't....I assumed

Bad Habit #10: Unrealistic expectations.
These days with news stories, weight-loss advertisements and reality shows alike touting fast and extreme weight loss as the norm, it can be easy to think that you are capable of those kinds of results, too. But in truth, these are extreme and abnormal results that most people cannot expect to replicate. If you're expecting to drop a lot of weight fast—and to do so consistently—these unrealistic expectations could be setting you up for failure. There's nothing worse than expecting to lose 10 pounds in your first week.

Smart Fix: Change your expectations and your mindset. If you expect to lose 10 pounds in one week, then losing 1 pound is a major letdown. But if you expect to lose 1 pound and you did, you feel successful and inspired to keep working toward your goals. Losing 1-3 pounds per week—even half a pound—is major progress that should be commended. This is a healthy and realistic rate of weight loss that you can expect if you're sticking to your nutrition and fitness goals.

Saying you want to jump from a size 18 to a 10 in 2 months is an unrealistic goal.....you will definitely add it back if at all you achieve it and probably have sagging skin in the process. My transformation took a while (about 9-10 months)........and that's why maintaining it now is "easy peasy lemon squeasy". And instead of looking gaunt and old......I have acquired some youth. Your body needs to adjust into it gradually but steadily.
I need to run huns......I have a road trip and need my beauty sleep!.....I am not driving though.....but meeehn sitting on my butt for 4 hours is not a joke! No tennis for me tomorrow!!*sigh.....*boohoohoo

10 Habits of Unsuccessful Dieters.......VOLUME 2

Hi People,

Trust you all had a fulfilling week.....met deliverables and strived to be healthy! I am just gonna get right on to my bag of tips.....our continuation from last weeks write-up....

 Healthier pizza

Pizza swimming in cheese and fat

Bad Habit #3: Giving up certain foods altogether. We've already touched on the idea that labeling certain foods as diet no-no's can make you crave them even more. Whether you feel out of control when you're around certain foods or you've read about a certain diet plan that promises results if you were to just cut out wheat, gluten, carbs, sugar, or dairy, a lot of people think that to lose weight they have to give up specific things—including foods that they love.

A truly healthy diet that you can stick with forever will include all the foods you love. Have a healthier option of that food item instead more frequently biko......and have the "full' sin in moderation very occasionally. For example fresh yummy grilled and skinned chicken and baked chips is about 500 kcals. For the same portion but fried chicken in batter and fried chips is about 1,300 kcals!!!! habaticallly grossly a perfect waste of calories!!  And that was the inspiration behind F.i.t.T.r.i.x Deli.........same food products, only done with healthier ingredients, hence reduced calories and waaaay more nutritious.

Smart Fix: All things in moderation. Instead of focusing on the foods you can't have, set goals to eat more of the foods that you know are good for you. This is a much more positive way to think about your goals and get results. Plus, allowing yourself portion-controlled servings of the food you're thinking about banning from time to time as a treat will keep you happy and content, but also prevent crazed binges that can occur when you're feeling weak.   So in other words don't give up any food, look for healthier ways of making them....and have them in good portions.

Bad Habit #4 Only caring about calories.
Calories are very key to weight loss. In fact, balancing your calorie equation (what you eat and what you burn) is what results in successful weight management. However, there is more to weight loss and a healthy lifestyle than calories alone. Some foods that may be higher in calories per serving are actually healthier for you than foods that may be lower in calories (think a heart-healthy avocado vs. a processed 100-calorie pack of pretzels). So while calories count, nutrition matters, too.

Smart Fix: While tracking your calories, don't forget to look at other key nutrients like protein and healthy fats (both of which can keep you full) and key vitamins and minerals that are important for your overall health. Ideally, you want to use a little trial and error to balance not only your calorie equation, but make the kinds of choices that meet your protein, fat, carbohydrate and micronutrient (vitamins and minerals) goals. Be mindful of hidden sugar.

Bad Habit #5: Focusing on the scale.
You want to lose weight, so you weigh yourself, right? Yes…and no. Weight is an easy way to measure your progress, but it doesn't tell you the whole story. Even if the scale isn't budging, that does not mean that you're not making major progress toward losing weight and getting healthier. You can lose inches, get fitter, gain lean muscle mass, drop body fat, become better hydrated, look better and feel more energized without the pounds budging at all.

Smart Fix: Remember that the scale tells you only one thing: the total mass of all your body parts at a given moment. Don't put too much stock into it. Weigh yourself less frequently (about once every 1-2 weeks), and track all the other signs that amazing changes are happening in your body even if the scale doesn't move. This is the best way to stay motivated for the long haul. I sound like a broken record telling my clients this...over and over and over again! In all of my weight loss journey, I probably weighed myself 4 - 5 times in 9 months!
"Using the scale is a very ANALYTICAL way of measuring progress. Using a mirror is a VISUAL way of measuring your progress. Using your clothes is a PHYSICAL way of measuring progress. Determining your energy levels is a PHYSIOLOGICAL way of measuring progress. Reaffirming your goals PSYCHOLOGICALLY is a way maintaining FOCUS on what your trying to ACHIEVE, day to day.

Sometimes all of these aspects work wonderfully in UNISON, giving one a sense of INVINCIBILITY. Other times, one must find COMFORT in one aspect while the others don't seem to ACCURATELY measure progress.

Continually focusing on the psychological aspect, one will always be STRIVING for PERSONAL FULFILLMENT. One must try to find the "POSITIVE" motivational FOCUS for continued SUCCESS."

Bad Habit #6: Only dieting and not exercising.
This may be one of the most common reasons your weight loss is stalling. Yes, you can lose weight through diet alone, but it will be a lot harder and slower. You can only cut so many calories without feeling overly hungry, lethargic or miserable. Yet by exercising along with making dietary changes, you can eat more (and feel more satisfied) and still lose weight. Plus, you'll get all the amazing physical and mental benefits that come from exercising, including improved appearance, better muscle tone and a healthier body overall.

Smart Fix: Add exercise to your weight-loss plan. It doesn't have to be boring, strenuous, or time-consuming either. Even 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in your results. Take up a fun sport....I took up lawn tennis recently....and its soooo addictive :D....try it *wink*

I need to run huns, we will conclude next week.......I have to make my hair, nails, probably get a massage etc and try to do babe :D......and the kids have a play date. Do enjoy your weekend and I promise you and pinky swear that if you take all these tips and put it in your left hand(hence don't eat with it).....success is yours!! But again, if you feel you still need that one on one constant guide and support....you can holla!

10 Habits of Unsuccessful Dieters.......VOLUME1

Hello my wonderful booboos!!

I absolutely missed missed you all last week.....kai!! Trust you all had a fab week and as I type this still snoring in bed! I have had a very busy 2 weeks....from catering for a teambuilding via F.i.t.t.r.i.x Deli and had to facilitate a Wellness seminar at one of the top 10 banks in Nigeria.....aside my regular consulting, wife and mummy duties and being a law abiding citizen!!

Exotic Fruit cocktail Salad

Healthy Devils Food cuppy + mini sandwiches

 Mini healthy sandwich Platter

During the Wellness facilitation......I had given them a "Buffet Challenge" here!

I have been asked over and over again via emails, on BBM, SMS......"Ebun give us tips o"... "How did you do it?"....."What do you even eat now, or you don't even eat sef?". So to be a good 'mummy' :D, I have tried to put together, with the combo of personal experience and research, MY BAG FULL OF TIPS!

What could be more frustrating than not seeing the scale drop despite days or weeks of doing everything right? After all that hard work—all the cookies you didn't eat, all the willpower you maintained, all the time you logged at the gym—how could you not have lost any weight? It's enough to make even the most determined person throw in the towel. Before you swear off exercise and declare yourself as someone who "will never lose weight," stop, take a deep breath, and remember this:  Weight-loss may seem simple (eat fewer calories than you burn), but often, there's a lot more going on than a simple calorie equation. Our bodies aren't calculators after all!

What's more likely is that you've made some innocent mistakes in your quest to lose weight. Don't feel bad about it—it's extremely common. These bad habits may be preventing you from getting the results you want. Instead of giving up, make some of the smart changes outlined below, and you'll see that scale drop in no time!

So to keep a continuous flow and not overwhelm  you....we will take these tips in twos.....

Bad Habit #1: Going "on a diet" in the first place.
My second write up clearly emphasized this!! I HATE DIETS ! Since when did the word "diet" refer to something good? The word itself implies restriction, limitation, and a short-lived effort to get some quick results and then return to a "normal" way of eating. Countless surveys have shown that people who consider themselves to be "dieting" lose less weight and encounter more problems (such as plateaus and a lack of motivation) than people who are trying to lose weight by creating a lasting healthy lifestyle. Plus diets usually mean giving things up: favorite foods, dining out, desserts—even your social life.  Remember moderation is key and your portions and of course how that meal was prepared in the first place. You don't have to be a psychology expert to know that when you tell yourself you can't have something, you usually want it more. This way of thinking could directly be sabotaging your efforts.

Smart Fix: Ditch the diets for good and focus on creating a healthy lifestyle based on nutritious foods and small, realistic changes that you can live with for the long term.

Bad Habit #2: Overhauling your eating habits overnight.
How many times have you gone crazy eating all the "bad" foods you know you shouldn't, only to promise to swear them off starting next week or next month or next year? How often have you decided to suddenly clean out your kitchen, throw away all the "junk" and then shop for only healthy food?

How's that working for you? No one can expect to change a lifetime of eating habits overnight—and no one should have to! To lose weight successfully and keep it off, you have to adopt a way of eating that you can stick with for the rest of your life.

Smart Fix: Eating healthy isn't about taking food away; it's about eating MUCH MORE of the things that are good for you over what is not. How can I really live without carbs??? Recognize the better ones for you. To be successful, you have to implement small and realistic changes to your diet. Next week, swap that milk for 1%, and switch out your usual bread for a healthy whole-grain variety, or grill that chicken instead of frying. Once you start getting used to that, you can set a small goal like eating one serving of fresh fruits or vegetables each day. The point is to start with gradual changes that fit into your lifestyle. I tell my Clients, because its a programmed event, there has to be some structure and guide......the koko is understand your own body....notice how you might react to different changes.

I need to run huns......wanna go do big sister duties and visit my baby sister in Covenant university....it was her birthday on Tuesday. Of course she is expecting some yummy cuppys, so need to finish frosting.....she's absolutely in love with the red velvet and devils food!!

Get off those fat behinds biko!

Hi people....

Trust you are all fab and on the roll!

My last write up seriously vexed some chics ooo...in a good way that is. They have finally taken control!! whoop whoop! #medoingazonto. There's nothing as awesome as being in control of what happens to you....you decide....don't leave it to fate.
Some people actually wanted to go scuba diving with me......teeheehee....sorry ooo...I am going with the MR :D.

I know though I lost weight to be healthy and all, my biggest motivation was to look fab and hawt! I love looking goooood and on point! Can I get a witness in here? :D. I do know most of the women that want to loose weight are for those same reasons. I guess we have been wired that way #shrugging. Because really there are just some outfits you dare not try to wear if you are really overweight and you have self respect of course! I see a lot of bulky ladies that lack that self respect and dare come out everyday on the streets in some eyesores......they need to be arrested! #Fasholapleasenote.

I have been hammering a lot on your nutrition.......hounding more like, and I think a lot of you are beginning to forget your exercises! To be honest...you can loose weight without exercising, once you are eating the right combo for healthy weight loss and for your metabolic type. The ish though is it will crawl.....like really really drag. So if for example, you need to loose 20kg, eating right CONSISTENTLY can get you there but if you do that alone, it could take you 2 years or even more! I know most of us want it faster, though at a healthy pace. What will do that "magic" for you is some good ole exercise! Traditional "getting off that butt" and being consistently active. Exercises are awesome....aside the fact that they tone you up as you loose the weight so you don't have "flabs" everywhere, it speeds up your metabolism so you can loose more weight and also makes you feel super energized!

Me and my new friend (fitness brought us together):D......Tayo of FADD......a great great inspiring runner!! She has had her "journey" too.........

Hence we could break that "2 year rule" :p.......and make that target in 6months or a little less!! isn't that glorious!!!!. And look fab and firm at the end of it all. And most especially your heart is super grateful! And really what is 6 months to the rest of your life or even the 2 years? Take your pick!

I know some people are groaning now at the thought of exercise and how it seems impossible to fit that into their routine. Errrrrrrrm my take - whatever is important to you, you need to make out time for it. There's no two way about it.  I know Tayo for one takes her tee, shorts and trainers to work and runs from Falomo to the new Lekki- Ikoyi bridge like every other day right after work!!!
And NO you don't have to join a gym to loose weight!! In all of my journey, I used a really fab gym in Ikoyi and only did it for a little over 3 weeks....3-4 times a week. After a while, it seemed really disruptive to my work because I was going during my break time.....in the day!! My colleagues thought I was pretty nuts......my understanding boss was pleasantly surprised but that changed to impatience eventually when I wasn't back in good time for several meetings!! I knew I couldn't go on. So I just SIMPLY GOT MY ACTS TOGETHER AND EXERCISED AT HOME!!!

Yep you heard me right......about 90% of the 36kg I lost disappeared into thin air right there in my apartment! I just looked at my daily routine and planned around it. And was CONSISTENT. Nothing fancy or too strenuous. So added with eating right, no late dinners......eureka!! I hit a home run! And the more you exercise the more you can eat....literally!! Ask Tayo :p

I have been watching a lot of the "Biggest Loser" weight loss show of recent and the truth is though their routine is gangster... we can very well see that exercises are so key. So instead of starving or doing a crash or FAD diet, eat a healthy balance and up your exercise level for quicker results.

Isn't this absolutely inspiring? A transformed life!

I really hope you all embrace all these as a lifestyle.....its my ultimate dream....changing one woman at a time! Beautiful bodies......healthy hearts!

Take that plunge!

I had had this really stressful week and had been looking forward to some tennis.....somehow I find it relaxing! Great outfit, really comfy footwear, air in my face and hair, the great outdoors and the sense of being in control......I hit that ball to exactly where I want it to go!!...( yea I know, I am a lil bit of a control freak....shoot me  :p)...and as I really can't toss people around, I take it out on the ball :D. And the best part is you get to tone up and burn off some calories the fun way.

So errrrrrrrm I just started playing and only got regular pretty recently( needed to create that time and quit the excuses) and my coach has been treating me like a burra all this while. So after like an hour of play, we stopped for some water, and then some tough men that usually played really hard shots bounced into the court and started demo-ing. I watched for about 15 mins and then turned to my coach and said I wanted to go doubles with them. You should have seen the look on his face! "No madam, lets still wait a bit, no rush...blah blah black sheep" For crying out loud I'm not training for a championship or to compete with Serena Williams na.....enough with the leg walks already!! My response "Oga don't worry, let me go and swim in the deep end that has sharks, I will hustle and swim my way out".

I picked up my racket, winked at my namesake/best friend(after my Femi, my sister of life :D) /client that had followed me to the court that morning and took that seemingly long walk to my "doom". You might think I'm being overtly dramatic, but really I could have wounded myself, been laughed and snickered at for slowing their game down or just be plain embarrassed in front of a lot of people. But for some reason I didn't give a hoot, all I saw was the end....I needed to prove to my coach, my bestie, and all who watched I could do it and of course change my tennis "destiny"! Fast-forward to 40 minutes after.....I had proved my point. The guys were impressed, one a little intimidated and my coach was beaming with pride ; my bestie screaming her lungs out!! I had a blast!!!

MY POINT: Most times you do not know your capacity until you are thrown into the "deep end with some hungry sharks". It is actually even an unwritten philosophy in general life . That is what has really separated the successful CEOs from the struggling employees - the ability to take that plunge...with a strategy of course! We need to stop the damn excuses (excuse my french please).

I am baffled every time I hear "I can't exercise" or "I have no time to plan my meals" or "It is  soooo hard" and yet we want healthy hearts and banging bodies! Like seriously? And what is more baffling is these excuses are from supposedly strong women - who from a tender age of 13 start to bleed at a certain time of the month every month with accompanying pain and still expected to wake up early , go to school and get perfect grades ; who have suffered heartbreaks over and over again and still go out with their heads high and meet up with deliverables ; who have had to deal with stereotype mentalities that boys rule the world ; who can't wear snickers and be seen as a lady in this vain generation unless you are in 3,4,5" heels....and you wear that all day and still have a straight back and a peachy smile ; who gets home after all that hustle and hubby and kids are catered too.....even after driving in lasgidi's traffic.

These shoes are divine #lovestruck.......I so don't mind wearing them all day!

And then to do this one thing for ourselves........this one thing that will help our confidence and our health....we can't.......but we want the outcome.  hian!!

The truth is in almost every other area of our lives, we have taken that plunge and kicked those sharks out and dominated that terrain......so why not in this area? We need to add that to our priority list and put it right at the top if possible.

TAKE THAT PLUNGE TODAY! I am not saying it will be a walk in the park....some sharks in trying to bite you could graze you, or their fins prick you, or in trying to dodge being bitten you could knock your foot against a rock. I missed a couple of balls, hit some balls that got stuck in nets on the court that morning.....but my good, strong hits outweighed the weak ones hence earning me a place on my make belief "medal board"
